We will kick off our season with a team meeting in the the cafateria on Thursday, Nov. 8th. Bring you Blue Card to this meeting. You will be released from the meeting at 4:15.
We were in desperate need of a test. Overall, we did a nice job. I thought our strength as a team was getting off the bottom and our conditioning (your running over the holiday payed off) . I thought we were weak on top (holding our opponent down) and setting up our shots on our feet. GF has a similar philosophy– get off the bottom, get your back away from the matt. Tyler Labert demonstrated excellent hand control as he was standing up, textbook technique. Matches that stood out in my mind: 1. Tom O’Conner was tenacious, determined, tough and wrestled smart. He was relentless with his 1/2 nelson on top and never stopped wrestling. He executed the technique we work so hard on in the room every day, way to go Tom. 2. Even Earl, Wow !! Evan wrestled two hard-fought matches. He was excellent off the bottom, tought on his feet and he never stopped scoring. In both matches he mentally “broke” his oppenet’s will to win. There were other outstanding demonstrations of skill such as Mike Hewitt’s arm throw. We have a full week to work on new technique as we polish up what we already know.
As I have told you boys before, there is something special about a wrestler, in my mind you are the “cream of the crop” in this middle school. You are participating in the toughest, oldest, most demanding sport there is. You should all be commended for your dedication and commitment to this sport.
We have only 14 practices remaining, let’s work harder than ever !!!
Pinning their opponent against GF were the following:
1. Joe Sambrato, 2. John Linendoll (2 pins for the night), 3. Tony Fusco, 4. Matt Lashway (2 pins for the night), 5. Evan Earle, 6. Jimmy VanDoran, 7. Joe Slattery,
What a great event for our program. Thanks to all our support staff, this event was a huge hit and very well done. People are already talking about who they will play with next year, how can we improve, etc.
Once again, thanks to all that helped make this event a success.
9th grade can be exciting and stressfull. Freshman enter the 9th grade with many questions: What will wresting parctice be like? How hard are the practices? Will I make the team? These are just a few questions most young athletes inquire about. Post your questions here and I will see what I can do for you.
That was fast (Mat Fans are good). Apparenlty we have a date all set. Sunday September 24th at the Queensbury Country Club. There will be an organizational meeting at Neemer Ford in the conference room on Wed. April 12th at 6:00 p.m.
At one of our meetings this winter Rory mentioned an alumni golf tournament for this summer. Shirley French mentioned she would love to help organize. This would be a fun event, let’s make this happen.
This is great. Send this site to as many of the “old guard” as possible.” It would be great to hear from people that have left the area that were in our porgam at one time ?
What happens to the Queensbury Wrestlers? John Hubert is now an athletic director for the high school at the marine corps base (Quantico) in Virginia. He has 3 girls and is getting ready to builid a new home. He misses the Adirondacks and comes home often with his family. If you know of any other alumni, send this bolg web address to them. This could be a great way to keep in touch with our past grapplers.
